The city was founded in 884 and in the 11th century it was the See of the Bishop and the Capital of the Kingdom of Castilla.
It has always been a landmark stop in the Saint James’ way and a trade center between Biscay and the South of the Peninsula. It is located to the North of the Community of Castilla y León and its population is about 180,000 inhabitants.
Burgos has many interesting monuments. There is a castle that overlooks the valley of the city, the cathedral, one of the largest and most beautiful of Spain, the Monastery of the Huelgas and the Monastery of Miraflores.
The cathedral has recently been restored and its brand new museum is a must in any visit of the city.
There are many quaint streets and plazas and a river walk where fairs and exhibits are usually held.
The city was the birthplace of El Cid and there are many places that remind us of him. There is a monument to honor him in one of the most important squares of the city.
