On the coast, Santander is famous for its beaches, the Magdalena Palace and its great seafood. Its origins can be traced to the time of the Romans.
It has been a trade and fishing port for many centuries. Since the beginning of the 20th century it has been a fashionable and popular summer resort.
Its very long beaches and the Magdalena Palace are some of its best attractions. The Palace is no longer a royal residence and it is now used for institutional events and it serves as the headquarters of the International Summer University that every year brings thousands of international students to the city.
The city is famous also for its international Summer Art Festival and for its many seafood restaurants.
