Of ancient origin, Tordesillas has been the site of many key events in Spanish history.
In this town, the Tordesillas Treaty was signed between Spain and Portugal, dividing the territories discovered in America. There is an important museum that keeps maps and documents of that time.
In Tordesillas, the queen Juana of Castilla, daughter of the Catholic Kings was imprisoned. There are many buildings and sculptures in memory of her stay there.
In Tordesillas there is the Convent of Santa Clara, built by the king Alphonse 11Th. It was originally a Mudejar palace and it contains Arab baths and spectacular halls and chapels.
During the month of October, there is a medieval market that brings in craftsmen and artisans from all over the country and many visitors attracted by the organization and participation of the local population in all the activities.
There are many artisans who live in Tordesillas and there are jewelry, lace and pottery workshops.
The town has 8,500 people.
