The town of Medina de Rioseco was an important trade point for cereals and livestock.
It was the ending point of the Canal de Castilla, a canal built to transport crops and raw materials from the north and there were many factories, paper mills and foundries in this town.
There are many historical buildings and its old town is one of the best preserved in the region, with many palaces and churches. It still keeps two of the gates of the fortress wall.
The town is famous for its bakeries and pastry shops.
The town has 5,000 inhabitants.
