León is the capital of the province of the same name and is part of the Community of Castilla y León. It was founded by the Romans and it is still possible to find remains of the fortress walls built to protect the city. It was the capital of the Kingdom of León.
Two traditional ways cross this city: from South to North, the Silver Way and from East to West, the Saint James’ Way.
A city with many treasures, there are two landmarks in it, the Cathedral, which is unique in Spain for its vast stained glass windows is one.
The other one is the Church of San Isidoro, with its impressive chapel covered with Romanesque frescoes.
There are many more places to visit in the city: there is a building by Gaudi, the Palacio the Botines, and the Hostal de San Marcos, a former hostel for pilgrims, the Plaza Mayor and its many parks.
The old town is famous for the abundance of traditional taverns and bars where it is possible to taste many old fashioned and modern tapas.
