The capital of Spain since 1561, Madrid is one of the largest cities in Europe with a wide and diverse cultural life.
Three of the most important museums of Spain are here: the Prado Museum, the Reina Sofia Art Center and the Thyssen Bornemiza Museum. But, there are many more museums and cultural centers: the Lázaro Galdiano museum, the Sorolla museum, the Archaeological Museum, the Museum of the Americas, the Caixa Forum Cultural Center and the San Fernando Art Museum and Academy.
In the old town, there is the Royal Palace, the Almudena Cathedral and numerous churches, palaces, plazas and monuments of interest.
Every Sunday there is an open air flea market where one can buy antiques, second hand knick knacks, books, vintage clothing and much more.
Madrid is famous for its shopping districts, with all kinds of shops, for its many bars and restaurants where one can taste from the most traditional tapas to the most exotic international cuisine. Its night life is legendary and it has been featured in many films.
There are activities for all tastes: opera performances, classical, contemporary and avant-garde theatre, circus, flamenco clubs and more.
Participants in our programs will visit the Prado Museum, the Royal Palace, and the old town, the Retiro Park, the Plaza Mayor, and the City Hall Square, the Flea Market and will take a bus tour to see more of the city highlights, such as the university campus, the Salamanca neighborhood, the Santiago Bernabeu soccer stadium and more.
Depending on the program of activities, there will be at least one tapa tour, and a typical meal at a well known restaurant.
